The Recovery Skills Study

What could it mean for an athlete to be an expert at recovery?

Mission of the project

The purpose of this study is to assess how competitive endurance athletes self-regulate their recovery, and whether the skills and strategies they use could provide a recovery advantage in training and performance.

More simply: How do athletes shape their recovery between training sessions?

Project summary

Participants in this study will be asked to do two workouts on Zwift, 48 hours apart. In the 48 hours before each workout, you will be asked to fill out a series of short forms throughout the day on our study app. Outside of the two key workouts, please feel free to train however, whenever, and as much or little as you would like.

Why – Background.

Recovery is more than the tools you use and the things you do. It's about why, how, and when you use them – The recovery skills of Knowing, Listening to, and Respecting your body.

This study will explore how you might use those recovery skills. We'll ask you to do two hard workouts on Zwift, 48 hours apart. In the 48 hours before each, you'll answer a series short forms about your thoughts, actions, and feelings tied to your recovery. See here for more details on the study.

Who – Participate.

We're looking for people 17+ years old, endurance training 3+ times per week, who have previously completed a Zwift race, currently have the account and equipment to complete workouts on Zwift, will download the study app to their phone, and will share their training with us on TrainingPeaks.

So What – Study Results.
